October 24, 2024 – Issue #7
This is a pet peeve of mine. I go to print a document off the Internet, or from an email, something goes wonky as it is coming off the printer and it falls out of the output tray and onto the floor. No biggie, right? Wrong!
I pick it up and look for the page numbers to put it back in order and lo and behold – NO PAGE NUMBERS, ANYWHERE.
Now I am forced to scan/read the document to find which page follows which. Now some of you are probably thinking, she should have checked it in print preview, before she printed, and added page numbers.
Well, how about the person who created the document or sent the document check for page numbers before they distributed it. To me, it is just common courtesy to put page numbers on documents.
So, here is how easy it is to add page numbers.
In a word document look at the ribbon at the top. Find “insert” and click on it. Look toward the middle of the page under the search bar on the options menu and find “page number” in the Header & Footer option. Click on the down arrow to the right of the word “number”. You will see your options.
Make your choice. Click on your choice. For this example, I will use the bottom of the page which is my preference. A menu will pop open to the right and you will see your options. I will choose “Plain Number 3”. This puts the page number in the footer to the righthand side of the document. And just like that, you have page numbers.
See how easy that was.
So, now that you know how to put page numbers on your documents, there is no excuse not to. Go forth and make me proud!
