It is interesting how we all grow and change over time. Our likes, our dislikes, what we care about, what we worry about… none of it stays the same.
When I was a child, my favourite colours were pink and purple. Pretty standard for a little girl, I suppose. These days, it’s black… and still purple. Apparently, some things evolve, and some hang on for dear life.
Food is another story entirely.
As a child, I loved bananas. Now? I can’t stand them. Not even the smell. I’m convinced I was fed one too many as a baby and my brain said, “That’s enough of that forever.”
On the flip side, there are foods I wouldn’t go near as a child that I now actually enjoy. A plain tossed salad, for example. You couldn’t have paid me to eat one back then. Now? I willingly choose it. Who is this person?
And ice cream… well, childhood me would be shocked. I used to love it. Now I have it occasionally and call that progress. Or maturity. Or both.
Then there are the things I wish I had outgrown.
Sweets, for example.
I still have a sweet tooth, and I would very much like to know which tooth it is so I can have it removed. It would make life a lot easier.
School is another interesting shift. When I was younger, I didn’t enjoy it at all. Now, I can’t seem to learn enough. Courses, articles, random bits of information, I’ll take them all. Apparently, I just needed a few decades to come around.
There are also things and behaviours I tolerated when I was younger, mostly because I had no choice, that I absolutely will not tolerate now. That, I think, comes with age, a bit of wisdom, and the realization that life is too short to put up with things that drain you.
And then there’s something I’ve noticed over time.
Some people continue to grow, learn, and adapt. Others seem to get stuck. They stop changing, stop questioning, and just stay where they are.
Personally, I think we should keep growing. Keep learning. Keep adjusting as we go. We don’t have to become completely different people, but a little progress never hurt anyone.
Just my two cents.
And, as Tigger would say, “TTFN, Ta, ta for now!”
