(A not-so-deep dive into business decisions that make sense)
I was thinking about kids the other day — how they ask “Why?” after literally everything you say.
“Because it’s bedtime.”
“Why?”
“Because you need sleep.”
“Why?”
It’s exhausting… but also kind of brilliant. Kids ask why because they’re curious. They want to understand the world.
Somewhere along the way, many of us stop doing that — especially in business. We get busy, go with the flow, and forget to question things.
But asking why can be one of the best habits you develop as an entrepreneur. Here are a few “whys” to get you thinking.
Why network?
Because it’s good for business. You can’t grow in a vacuum. People do business with people they know, like, and trust. Networking helps check all three boxes.
Plus, it’s cheaper than advertising — and often comes with snacks (if you’re networking in person).
Why have a brand?
Because standing out beats blending in. A strong brand makes you recognizable, memorable, and ideally… a little bit irresistible.
It’s the difference between “that person who does stuff” and “the one with the awesome pink logo and killer tagline.”
Why have a website?
Because if people can’t find you online, they’ll assume you don’t exist — or worse, that you’re not legit.
A website tells people what you offer, why it matters, and how to work with you — ideally without ever changing out of their pajamas.
Why hire a bookkeeper or accountant?
Because taxes are confusing, and the Canada Revenue Agency has zero sense of humour.
A good financial pro makes sure you’re not leaving money on the table — and helps you avoid that panicked, last-minute receipt scramble in April.
Why get admin support?
Because “doing everything yourself” isn’t a business strategy — it’s a recipe for burnout.
Admins help keep your calendar sane, your emails answered, and your to-do list from becoming a full-blown novel.
Why hire a VA for admin support?
Because virtual assistants don’t need a desk, a parking spot, or a slice of your birthday cake.
We work remotely, use our own tools, and cost way less than hiring in-house. You only pay for the time you need — no awkward small talk required.
(And yes, we even have our own virtual water cooler.)
Why post on social media?
Because it’s where people are. Like it or not, visibility builds credibility.
(And no, you don’t have to dance on TikTok… unless you really want to.)
Why keep asking why?
Because it keeps you sharp. It helps you make smarter decisions, spot gaps, and stay open to better ways of doing things.
It’s curiosity with a purpose — and that’s never a bad thing.
These are just a few of the whys that come to mind. There are plenty more. The key? Don’t stop asking. Every why opens the door to clarity, growth, and smarter business decisions.
And hey — if one of your whys happens to be “Why am I still doing all this admin myself?”… well, I’ve got an answer for that.
Let’s chat.
