Let’s talk about bad drivers. You know the ones who have absolutely no business behind the wheel of a vehicle. And if you’re offended by this, well, you’re probably one of them. Sorry, not sorry.
I’ve been driving longer than a lot of you reading this blog have been alive. Proud to say I got my license on the first try. Can’t say the same for some of these clowns on the road. And look, I am not perfect by any means (I’m sure a number of my family will attest to that!)—I’ll admit, I’m guilty of speeding now and then. But there’s a difference between pushing the speed limit a little and flat-out driving like you’re auditioning for The Fast and the Furious.
Let’s break down some of the most infuriating habits of bad drivers (and yes, I’ve seen all of these and more over the years):
- Speed Demons: Sure, I speed, on occasion. But I’m talking about the lunatics who seem to think speed limits are just suggestions. When you’re swerving through traffic like you’re dodging banana peels in Mario Kart, we’ve got a problem.
- Signal Light Slackers: Are signal lights optional now? Because a lot of people seem to think so. Or worse, they flip the blinker on at the last possible second—like when they’re already turning. Newsflash: You’re supposed to use it before you turn, genius.
- Tailgaters: Listen, if I can see the whites of your eyes in my rearview mirror, you’re too damn close. Back off before I brake-check you and ruin both our days.
- Red Light Right Turners: Turning right on red is fine… if you actually stop first. Rolling through like you’ve got diplomatic immunity is not the move.
- Stop Sign Scoffers: You know those bright red octagons? Yeah, they’re not just friendly suggestions. Breezing through a stop sign without so much as tapping the brake is asking for trouble.
- Burned-Out Lights: If one of your headlights or brake lights is out, fix it. I shouldn’t have to guess whether you’re braking or just slowing down because you’re scared of your own shadow.
- Intersection Huggers: Why are you sitting so close to me at an intersection? I’m waiting for the light to change, not preparing to host a bumper-to-bumper meet-and-greet.
- Pedestrian Deniers: Stopping for pedestrians isn’t optional, folks. Especially when I see someone walking a dog—yes, I’ll always stop, and you should, too. They have the right of way. You trying to roll through the crosswalk like it’s your personal racetrack is a surefire way to earn my wrath.
- Emergency Vehicle Ignorers: If you see flashing lights, move over and slow down. It’s the law. Not a suggestion, not an optional courtesy. If someone’s out there trying to save a life, the least you can do is not act like you’re competing for the world’s most oblivious driver award.
- Distracted Drivers: I get it, kids can be rowdy, and everyone needs their morning coffee. But if you can’t handle driving without constantly turning to look at your passengers or waving your hands all over the place like you’re giving a TED Talk, you shouldn’t be behind the wheel. And let’s not forget the phone addicts—it’s still illegal, folks! Oh, and if you’re too distracted to keep your car in a straight line and keep weaving from lane to lane like you’re testing the durability of the paint lines, maybe someone else should be driving.
- Drunk Drivers: Weaving from lane to lane isn’t just a party trick, it’s a sign you shouldn’t be driving at all. If you’re too hammered to keep your car steady, you’re not just a bad driver—you’re a dangerous one. Get an Uber, call a friend, or better yet, don’t drink! Yep, that last comment probably pissed someone off. Don’t care!
- Semi Truck Swervers: Now, I respect semi truck drivers. They’ve got a hard job. But when you’re on your phone or fiddling with your CB radio and your truck starts drifting into the other lane and then you jerk the wheel back and fishtail your trailer like you’re trying to wrangle a snake—yeah, that’s a problem. Maybe focus a little less on your gadgets and a little more on the 80,000 pounds of metal you’re dragging down the road.
- Winter Warriors: If it’s winter and your car looks like a mobile igloo with just a tiny porthole scraped out to see through, you’re doing it wrong. Clean off all your windows, mirrors, headlights—everything. If you can’t see properly, you shouldn’t be driving. And speaking of winter, slow down when it’s icy. I mean way before you’d normally brake on dry pavement. No sudden braking or jerky steering wheel movements either—unless your goal is to star in a YouTube fail compilation.
To sum it all up: If you’re one of these drivers, congratulations—you’re officially part of the problem. Driving is a privilege, not a right. It takes common sense, attention, and a little bit of courtesy. If you can’t manage that, then maybe it’s time to hand over the keys and call it a day. The rest of us would appreciate it. Drive safe, folks.
Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, I’m going to go make myself a nice cup of tea.
And, as Tigger would say, “TTFN, ta, ta, for now”!
