Business Lessons from My Dogs

“Surprising wisdom from my four-legged coworkers”

I’ve learned so many things from my dogs over the years that have surprisingly translated to my business life. Here’s a list of the top lessons they’ve taught me that I try to apply daily in my work:

Taking Care of Yourself:

  1. Rest When Tired
Taking breaks is essential. Just like my dogs, who know when to take a nap, I’ve learned that productivity thrives when you give yourself time to recharge.
  2. Don’t Exert Yourself for Unnecessary Things
Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in tasks that don’t matter. My dogs knows when it’s time to save energy, and so should we!
  3. Slow Down When Needed
Life can get hectic, but sometimes you just need to slow down and savour the moment (or the scent of a good tree).

Getting the Job Done:

  1. Sprint to the Finish
When it’s time to get the job done, give it your all and finish strong—just like my dogs sprinting to the treat jar!
  2. If You Don’t Like Something, Pee on It (well, not literally!)
When something’s not working, don’t be afraid to mark your territory and make changes. Not everything is worth sticking with.
  3. Bark When Necessary
Speak up when you need to—whether it’s for yourself, your team, or your business. Silence isn’t always golden.

Having Fun & Moving On:

  1. Have Fun
It’s easy to get serious in business, but we all need to take time to enjoy the journey—just like my dogs chasing their tail.
  2. Don’t Like Something, Forget About It
Move on from mistakes or disappointments. Dogs don’t dwell on the past; they just shake it off and keep going.

Connecting with Others & Staying Positive:

  1. Always Time for Cuddles
Don’t forget the importance of connection and support. It’s vital to build relationships and show appreciation.
  2. Jealousy
Jealousy can fuel you to do better but just remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your own growth.

Embracing Life:

  1. It’s Fun to Hang Your Head Out the Window and Feel the Breeze
Enjoy the little moments and don’t forget to have fun in your business journey. Letting go and embracing the wind in your hair is freeing!
  2. Ignore When Required
Sometimes, it’s better to ignore distractions and focus on what truly matters.

Final Thought:

At the end of the day, running a business doesn’t have to be all stress and struggle. We can learn a lot from our furry friends about enjoying the process, staying focused on what matters, and not taking ourselves too seriously. By applying these simple lessons, we can work smarter, not harder, and remember to have fun along the way.

So, here’s to taking life and business a little less seriously—just like my dogs do every single day.

I hope this gave you a little laugh and some inspiration for your own business journey!
