Motivation? I’ve Heard of It.

April 25, 2026, Issue #43

Ever stare at your To-Do List like it personally offended you? Same. Unfortunately, this isn’t one of those lists you can pass off to your virtual assistant (VA). It’s the stuff you have to do. But here I am, a VA still helping, just indirectly, with some motivational tips.

Some days, motivation feels more mythical than a unicorn on a cloud. Maybe you’re tired, the sun’s shining like a postcard, and your best friend just texted to meet for coffee because they have the day off. (Rude.) Meanwhile, your To-Do List is lurking nearby, whispering, “You know I’m not going to finish myself, right?”

You’re not alone. We all hit that mental wall sometimes. The trick isn’t waiting for motivation to magically appear. It’s creating little systems that gently kick you into gear, even when you’d rather be horizontal with a book or binge-watching your favourite series.

Try the “Hour On, Ten Off” Method

When you’re stuck in neutral, don’t try to tackle the whole list. Instead:

  • Pick one task. Just one. (Not the scariest one, ease in.)
  • Set a timer. Work on it for one focused hour.
  • Then take a 10-minute break. Walk the block, grab a coffee, scroll aimlessly. It’s your choice.
  • Not done? Give it another hour. Then another break.

It’s like tricking your brain into thinking it’s getting a deal. Spoiler: it kind of is.

Lunchtime Is Sacred (and Productive)

If it’s close to lunch? Step away. Seriously. Eat something. Sit outside if you can. Breathe fresh air. Reset your brain.

When you come back, you’ll feel more human, and way more ready to knock out the next thing on your list. This isn’t slacking. It’s strategy.

One Step at a Time

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to do everything today. You don’t. You just have to start. One thing leads to another. Before you know it, that dreaded task is done. Then? On to the next.

A finished list is satisfying, but momentum? That’s powerful.

Bribery Works. Use It.

Let’s be honest, we’re all a little reward-motivated. So, give yourself something to look forward to:

  • A fancy coffee with whipped cream and sprinkles
  • An extra-long lunch break
  • Meeting that friend, after you’ve earned it
  • A nap (the holy grail of adult rewards)

It’s not cheating. It’s smart. Use whatever carrot works for you.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to be hyper-productive every day. You just need consistency, a little structure, and a whole lot of grace. Building small habits is key to running your business without losing your mind.

So, the next time your To-Do List gives you side-eye, nod back and say, “I’ve got this.” Then take a breath, set that timer, and do the thing.

Then go get that coffee. You’ve earned it.

And hey, while I can’t cross everything off your list, I can take the admin tasks, the emails, and the other stuff bogging you down. Want to offload a few things? Let’s chat.
