Perfectly Imperfect: Why I’m Done Apologizing for Being Me
I am perfectly imperfect. I make no excuses. I make mistakes—I’m human.
Do I say the wrong things sometimes?
Yes, I do.
Do I skip events because I either don’t like the event, don’t enjoy the people, or just don’t feel like being around anyone?
You bet.
Do I feel guilty?
Maybe sometimes… a little.
But most of the time? No. I am who I am. I am what I am. And if people don’t like it—or don’t like me—well, too bad. I won’t change for anyone.
Less Apologies, More Peace
The older I get, the less I feel the need to apologize, without sacrificing my kindness or empathy.
Been there, done that. I don’t owe anyone anything.
Some of my family—especially the younger ones—don’t like that. They don’t keep in touch, (but then I don’t either) that’s fine. That’s their choice. Just like my decisions are mine to make.
I’m Not Lonely—Just Introverted
I’m slightly reclusive and a serious introvert. I:
- Love spending time with my dogs
- Enjoy my own company
- Read, research family history, and listen to music
- Sit in my backyard and listen to the birds
- Take online courses for fun
- Prefer Zoom meetings to real ones
- Help people behind the scenes, especially with computer work
I hate being the centre of attention. Even when I was 10, I asked my family to stop singing Happy Birthday to me. I still feel that way.
Small Talk Exhausts Me
I avoid:
- Office potlucks
- Forced “team building”
- Big family gatherings
- Small talk
If I have to attend, I’ll be the one off to the side—quiet, peaceful, and not socializing.
If That’s a Problem for You… Oh Well
Don’t like it? Or don’t like me?
That’s okay.
I am what I am. I’m me.
Turns out, I’m not alone. More and more people are realizing they’d rather spend time with pets than people. Why?
Because sometimes, it’s just too peoply out there—too noisy, too busy, too fast, too angry.
I Choose to Be Me
Life is way too short to pretend.
Be who you are. Stop apologizing.
You weren’t put here to please everyone.
You weren’t born to make others happy at your own expense.
Your happiness? That’s your job.
Depending on others for it? That’s a trap.
Final Thought
So here it is—my truth, raw and unfiltered. I’m not asking for approval or permission. I’m simply living in alignment with who I am.
If that bothers some people?
That’s not mine to carry.
We weren’t meant to fit the same mold. And honestly? That’s the beautiful part.
As Tigger would say, “TTFN, Ta-ta for now!”
