Watching Golf Is Much More Relaxing Than Playing It

Fun fact: I like watching golf on TV.

I find it relaxing, almost Zen-like. Especially during winter where I live, when the courses are in warm climates filled with green grass, flowers, trees, and birds chirping away. It somehow makes winter feel a little more bearable.

Now, I am sure some of you are thinking you would rather watch paint dry.

Well, to each their own.

Do I actually play golf? Absolutely not.

I took lessons once and went out golfing a couple of times with my husband. Let’s just say that if the golf ball had been the size of a beach ball, I might have had a fighting chance of hitting it.

Is golfing relaxing and Zen-like in person?

Absolutely not.

Frustrating, irritating, maddening, infuriating… and I am sure I could come up with several more adjectives describing how much I dislike actually playing golf.

That being said, I don’t mind tagging along and driving the golf cart. Go figure.

However, I only did this once.

Years ago, we were in Spearfish, South Dakota, staying at a local campground while some of the guys decided they wanted to golf at a beautiful nearby course. Rather than stay behind at the campground alone, I decided to go along for the ride.

Now, my husband is right-handed, but for some reason golfs left-handed. He also has quite a slice at times. So, we spent a good portion of the day driving ahead and searching through long grass and trees looking for his golf balls.

At one point, another fellow and I climbed down into a dry creek bed to search for yet another missing ball.

As I stepped forward, I stepped directly on a snake.

Yes. A snake.

It slithered out from under my foot, and I nearly died on the spot.

Have I mentioned that I am absolutely petrified of reptiles? Because I am.

I jumped straight up and backward, completely bowling the poor guy over and knocking him flat onto the ground. I was back on that golf cart faster than a golfer yelling “Fore!”

The guys, of course, thought this was absolutely hilarious.

Meanwhile, I never left the golf cart again until the game was over and we safely returned to the clubhouse.

So yes, I still enjoy watching golf on television.

Playing it? Not so much.

Well, just another random thought that wandered through my brain and somehow made its way onto paper.

And as Tigger would say, “TTFN. Ta-ta for now!”
